UPDATE: the first 1.4.004 packages contained two bugs:
- felamimail gave an error "no egw_simple toolbar set"
- the spellchecker / aspell did not work (it need to be configured and enabled in Admin >> Site configuration)
The 1.4.004-2 tar.bz2, tar.gz and zip packages and the 1.4.005-15 rpm packages are fixing the above errors.
==> WE RECOMMEND EVERYONE UPDATES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
The update includes all previous 1.4 updates and requires no schema update (if you upgrade within the 1.4 release).
The fixed security problems are grave, if you have directories writable by the webserver in you docroot (in most windows server the complete docroot writable by default, but many linux servers are also set up that way).
The new version 2.6 of FCKeditor supports now newer Safari and Opera browsers, see http://www.fckeditor.net
Please note: as FCK contains many static javascript and css files, you and your users might have to delete the browser cache after the update!
tar.bz2, tar.gz and zip files are downloadable from sf.net

many bugfixes since 1.4.001/2

Download Tar and Zip packages from sourceforge.net. Please note that notification, importexport and SyncML require php5.1, while the rest of eGW 1.4 requires only php4.3! Please remember you always need the additional egroupware-pear package!
Rpm's for SuSE, Fedora & Mandriva are available via the egroupware repository at SuSE build service:
There are now also repository files (*.repo), which can be used for Yast or Yum to make the eGroupWare repository available to your package management.
This update had to be produced on very short notice, as the original mail to security@egroupware.org was bounced, by the mail infrastructure operated by the former project member Lars Kneschke. The project has no control over it and the egroupware.org domain, which is owned by the Lars Kneschke. In spite of his public statement that the egroupware.org domain belongs to the project, he has not transferred the domain to the eGroupWare project. He was contacted multiple times and was sent a transfer form, he only need to sign.
We ask everyone to politely contact Lars Kneschke (l.kneschke@metaways.de) and the Tine project to help convincing them to transfer the egroupware.org domain to the eGroupWare project.
If we can't get control over the domain or it get switched off or to a different website, we have to switch the eGroupWare infrastructure to www.egroupware-server.org

Admin statement regarding eGroupWare and Tine split
Submitted by Miles Lott on 2008/02/26 - 13:35
Since Tine has now violated the press clause in the admin statement from December at least twice, we have decided to take action in response. This was done after private discussion with Lars and Conny:
1. From now on, Tine is no longer part of the eGroupware project. They have 1 week from today to copy their svn contents elsewhere.
2. The two eGroupWare developers and project members Lars Kneschke and Cornelius Weiss are hereby expelled from the project due to their repeated acts against the project. They have been warned and appear to have no remorse nor respect for the rules of the project.

Printed English User Manuals are available from mid December 2007 on
Submitted by Ralf Becker on 2007/12/01 - 00:19
Since 2008, January 2th, you can get a printed User Manual in English language, beside the German one available since some years.
The User Manual Version 1.4 contains several descriptions of the eGroupWare applications and one Chapter about "getting started" in the popular eGroupWare modules. The manual has 180 pages and nearly 110 colored screenshots.
The manual was translated by a professional translator from the German User Manual, which is derived from the version available as Online Help within eGroupWare and online on this website.
The English Manual is now complete online available.
Thanks to Ingo Kreißelmeyer from Outdoor Unlimited Training (Germany) and Francisco Peralta from Velocity Medical Management (USA).

eGroupWare 1.4 final available
Submitted by Ralf Becker on 2007/06/04 - 12:32
The eGroupWare project is proud to announce the 3. major release of our well know groupware suite.
It contains uncountable improvements over the 1.2 release. To name a few:
The 1.4 release contains no more of the 1.2 contrib applications. If you want to continue to use them - against our recomendation, as they are no longer maintained - you can do so by checking them out from svn, see www.egroupware.org/wiki/subversion
Many thanks to all developers, translators and testers :-)

eGroupWare 1.2.107 security update
Submitted by Ralf Becker on 2007/06/04 - 11:03
This is a security update for eGroupWare 1.2.
We recommend everyone upgrades ASAP either to this update OR the new 1.4 version (final or RC2), which also include all the fixes.
The problems have been in the external library wz_tooltips (fixed by using the newest version) and ADOdb. The exploidts require an account in eGroupWare (please be aware that anonymous access to SiteMgr or the wiki provides such an account!).

2. and final eGroupWare 1.4 release-candidate
Submitted by Ralf Becker on 2007/05/27 - 11:30
Again many bugfixes since 1.4 RC 1:
security fix in ADOdb (we recommend to update)
basic UW-Imap and Dovecot support in FMail (automatic "Mail" prefix)
some fixes for distribution lists and the contact selection popup in FMail
significantly less memory usage of eTemplate lists (nextmatch-widget)
cookie domain and path are now configurable (defaults are like in 1.2)
asterisk (*) to mark untranslated messages is by default off now (configurable)
column-selection fixes in Addressbook and InfoLog
MySQL 4.0 and Postgres fixes for Tracker
reworked Polls app because a lot issues in it's so-layer, got a SiteMgr block now
The eGroupWare project will be on the LinuxTag fair in Berlin. You will find us in hall 12, booth 41. You can meet with the two eGroupWare core developers Ralf Becker and Lars Kneschke, as well as with representatives from now two professional eGroupWare support organisations. Every project-member willing to help on the booth is - as usual - more then welcome.
We got a certain number of free tickets. Please send a mail to linuxtag-AT-egroupware.org if you want one. They come by mail and you have to print them. We plan to release the 1.4 Version during the LinuxTag. CU there :-)
eGroupWare 1.4 release-candidate 1 available
Submitted by Ralf Becker on 2007/05/16 - 16:03
Again many bugfixes since 1.4 beta 5:
PostgreSQL: Upgrade to 1.4 working now
eTemplate: XUL import, FCK Editor in tabs, d-M-Y date format
ProjectManager: Ganttcharts configurable for non ascii chars
Calendar: alarms, multiple User selection
Addressbook: xmlrpc, distribution lists, US address format
We expect this to be the only RC before the final release within this month, as there have been 5 beta release so far.
There are NO more release critical bugs in the RC.
This release should be mostly bug free by now. You should install it on production critical systems only, if you know what you are doing. However we recommend it for all test installations!
Tar and Zip packages are available from sourceforge.net. You need to download and install following files:
eGroupWare-1.3.019.tar.bz2/tar.gz/zip
eGroupWare-egw-pear-1.3.019.tar.bz2/tar.gz/zip
Rpm packages are temporarily available from openSUSE build service:
We expect the final 1.4 release to be ready in May 2007.
You can help by testing these beta release and reporting bugs. Equaly important is voting on bugs, to help the developers to judge the relevance of bugs for the user base.

eGroupWare 1.2-106 bugfix and maintainance release
Submitted by Ralf Becker on 2007/01/01 - 11:03
This is a bugfix and maintainance release for the 1.2 branch of eGroupWare. We recommend everyone to update to it.
Please note: The most important fix is PHP5.2 compatibility.
Because of a nasty bug in the PHP5.2 mbstring extension, you have to additionally switch display_errors Off, to be able to work with eGroupWare using multibyte charsets like utf-8 (or anyway if you have mbstring.func_overload > 0). Otherwise you get tons of "empty haystack" warnings.
We expect to have the first beta for the new 1.4 release within the next days.

For new eGW members it was pretty tiring, for the experienced members it was good opportunity to get feedback from others. All in all it gave a good picture to everyone where eGroupWare stands now and where eGroupWare is going.
Impressions and more information about the presentations and discussions can been seen at (and added to) the Developer Days 2006 page.
